Dr. Jennifer Trowbridge has a wealth of experience playing many styles of music and a passion for teaching. She began playing guitar at the age of four. Continuing her lifelong dedication to music, she received a B.A. in music from the University of Chicago and a D.M. (doctor of music) in guitar performance from the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music. She has studied with world-renowned guitarists Sergio Assad, Denis Azabagic, Jorge Caballero, Sharon Isbin, Michael Lorimer, David Russell, and many others. She has collaborated with singers, dancers, and ensembles in the U.S. and abroad. Her students range from complete beginners to seasoned professionals.
Trowbridge Music, in Oakland, California, has many different options: for the most serious student, a nine-month Scholar Artist Program, and for absolute beginners or newly returning players, small classes to build not only skills but also motivation and confidence.
The curriculum for each private lesson student is tailored to the individual and includes progressive technical study, songs, and other repertoire as well as opportunities to play with others, perform, improvise, and compose. Students are encouraged to attend recitals and concerts as they grow their own artistry and develop a vision for themselves as musicians.
Jennifer's pre-college students have gone on to earn degrees in guitar performance, musical theater, music education, and music business, and have been awarded scholarships at dozens of schools such as the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, University of Southern California, Eastman School of Music, NYU, Oberlin College, University of Miami, Bard College, Belmont University, Berklee College of Music, Lawrence University, Northwestern University, DePaul University, Indiana University, Northeastern Illinois University, and University of Michigan, as well as non-music degrees at Columbia University, the University of Chicago, and more.
